Happy Thursday! Today, I wanted to share a little foyer refresh that I did last week. We don’t technically have an entryway, so I have created a little space to store extra seating and to drop things as soon as we walk in the door. Here’s a reminder of what this wall looked like the day we moved in:
When we first moved in, I purchased a parsons console from Home Decorator’s collection. I hung some DIY art that I painted (inspired by this painting), and added a gorgeous lotus lamp from Lamps Plus. Here’s what it looked like after we first moved in:
And while I loved that look, It was a little too “primary colors” for me. The lamp, console, and stools were perfect, but the art kept jumping out at me. I wanted something a little softer, something a little more “pretty” for the entry. So, I painted over the old painting (still kicking myself for doing that…) and created something new. Here’s what it looks like now! Needless to say, I’m in love.
I also wanted to add a pop to the door, so I painted it black. Our landlord said that we could paint whatever we wanted (it’s an old building), and as long as it looked good, we wouldn’t have to paint it back. Let’s just say I’m taking her at her word 😉
I added to the softness a little bit by putting a faux sheepskin over the stools. This spot is also where the kitties sleep, so it keeps the cat fur off of them! Win, win. I just love that the painting is colorful without being overwhelming, and it includes all of the colors used elsewhere in the apartment: emerald, pink, coral, navy, yellow, and black.
I am just so, so in love with this lamp. I also think it works much better with the new painting and the black door!
This is definitely my favorite painting to date.
lamp (exact) / table (similar) / stools (target) / painting (DIY) / sheepskin (exact) / rug (HomeGoods) / wall color (Benjamin Moore “Classic Gray”) / door color (Benjamin Moore “Baby Seal Black”)
So what do you think? Do you like the before, or the after? Painting the door black was such a great idea. It makes me want to paint all of my doors black! But I won’t. Nope. Not gonna do it. 😉
