BIG NEWS: I'm Moving!

Yep, that's right! And want to know where? You might recognize this...

Washington D.C.! I',m sorry that posting has been sparse around here, but I've had a good reason. :)

My husband and I have wanted to move to DC for a long time, we just never thought it would happen. We own our home in Charlotte, he had a great job, I started a business, and our families are close. We couldn't fight off the urge to move to DC, however, so we put a plan in action and made it happen.

H starts his job the first week of May (so soon!), so we are still figuring out the logistics. We're going to look for an apartment, and we're completing house projects like crazy. I'm beginning to pack, and we're going to look for renters for our house. It's all happening so fast!

What does this mean for the blog? Good things! It means that the projects around the house that I've been meaning to finish have been or will be finally finished and shared on the blog. I will also be sharing updates about how to pack and how to prepare your house for renters, which I'm sure some of you have done or will do in the future. I will also finish the One Room Challenge to completion, although I may not be posting in real time near the end of the challenge. Also, the most exciting part is that I will soon have a brand new space to decorate, from scratch! I am very excited about paring down and simplifying (a thing you have to do when you move from a large house to a small apartment), and also decorating a new space. So stick with me! I promise it will be worth it. If anything, I'll have more exciting things to post about now!

So here's my question for you...if you've been to DC, tell me about your favorite sight/ restaurant/ museum/ neighborhood! We've been dozens of times and are seasoned pros at navigating the city, but I am always open to new suggestions!

And thank you all...I am very excited to start the new adventure and cannot wait to have you along for the ride!

PHOTO CRED: I took these photos on a trip to DC in 2012.

  13. We lived in DC for a short year during our language training for an overseas tour. We enjoyed the {live} Netherlands Carillon concerts; it's near the Marine Memorial. You can check out this website: http://www.nps.gov/gwmp/planyourvisit/netherlandscarillon.htm

  15. I lived at 15th and Q for 10 years, but am now outside the city in Upper Marlboro.
I can help you with areas if you'd like, but I'm also great at thrifting places.
If you want to have fun and are renting, I'd look out Wisconsin Ave past the cathedral, because you're not far from Georgetown (stupidly expensive place to play) or over near Adams Morgan. VERY boho and TONS of excellent restaurants and bars. I'm in that industry, so I've been around (baby, she said, hand on hip!)
Outside Dupont Circle is fun, too.

When you want to buy? That's a whole 'nother can of worms!
    Welcome to the area.

    1. Yes, Christine, I'd love that! I'm hoping to find a place somewhere near Columbia Heights/ Mt. Pleasant/ Adams Morgan, or in the Logan Circle area. We'd love to buy, but holy crap...I think we need to adjust to the rental prices, first! If you know of any good thrift stores, I would LOVE to hear! I'm always on the lookout for good ones!

  16. I live and work in NW DC (Georgetown) and there's a lot to see, do, and shop but as Christine mentioned above, it is pricey. Dupont is full of great restaurants and bars as is Adams Morgan. I usually find myself going to northern VA to hang out with friends (Courthouse, Clarendon area) because no one from VA wants to "come in to the city"... read: traffic. You get used to it! I'm an avid thrifter, always looking to score something unique and vintage so I can tell you a couple good spots. You may also be interested in the Eastern Market flea market and District Flea (of NYC's Chelsea Flea fame.. same folks). Anyway, I absolutely adore your blog and your whole black/white/gold living room is driving me insaaaane! I'm totally copying it for my living room! :)

    1. Hi Kate! I really want to live somewhere in the NW area, but maybe a little closer to Columbia Heights or Adams Morgan. If you have any suggestions on bars, restaurants, or thrift shops, I'm all ears! Those are my favorite kinds of places and I am always looking for new ones.

I have also heard about the VA thing...my husband got a job at GMU so he will be commuting to Fairfax. We'll see if that gets old quickly! I've been to Eastern Market and I love it, and District Flea is first on my to-do list. Thank you so much! Send me photos of your living room when it's finished! :)

    1. I know! I'm both sad to leave and happy to go. This is why I've been so MIA! I'm still bummed I couldn't make it to Hpmkt :( But I'm so glad to have finally met you in person!

I love your comments like I love a glass of red wine, a slow Van Morrison song, and freshly swiffered floors...which is, like, a lot.
